EVOLUTION

.

Adaptation

An adaptation in biology is a trait with a current functional role in the life history of an organism that is maintained and evolved by means of natural selection.

Example:
Adaptation to the cold weather by wearing more clothes.
Animals would change traits to survive and live better.

Evolution

Evolution is any change across successive generations in the heritable characteristics of biological populations.

Example: Evolution took place changing successive characteristics adapting me to the environment.

Convergent Evolution

Describes the acquisition of the same biological trait in unrelated lineages.

Example: The legs are the same organ in both, but we are supposed to be different species Karena is a monkey and i am the person.

Analogous Structures

An analogy is a trait or an organ that appears similar in two unrelated organisms.

Example: The hands are similar but not exactly the same, one hand is representing a human and the other a monkey.

Natural Selection

Is the nonrandom process by which biological traits become either more or less common in a population as a function of differential reproduction of their bearers.

Example:
The traits of having dark hair is becoming less common because blond people is the one that is going to survive, so the color of the hair is changing overtime.

Sexual Selection

A concept introduced by Charles Darwin in his 1859 book On the Origin of Species, is a significant element of his theory of natural selection.

Example: Struggle between the females for possession of the males; the result is not death to the unsuccessful competitor, but few or no offspring.

We are representing the struggle between the females.

ECOLOGY

.

Photosynthesis

Is a chemical process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, especially sugars, using the energy from sunlight.

Example: The picture its representing the Photosynthesis with the experiment we did in the lab.

Pioneer Species

Pioneer species are species which colonize previously uncolonized land, usually leading to ecological succession.

Example:
The grass is the pioneer specie because it previously going to colonize so it can have ecological succession.

Energy flow through ecosystems

Ecosystems maintain themselves by cycling energy and nutrients obtained from external sources.

Example: The cookie is the external source and i am obtaining energy and nutrients of it.

Ecological Succession

Ecological succession, is the phenomenon or process by which a community progressively transforms itself until a stable community is formed.

Example: The pines and the water are representing the Ecological Succession because it is transforming in a community.

Secondary Consumer

A consumer that gets its energy from other consumers. These are often called carnivores.

Example:
Humans are carnivores and they also obtain energy from primary consumers and producers.

In the picture me and my friend are representing the consumers.

Density Independent Factor

These factors are unrelated to population size and affect everyone in the population regardless of population size.

Example:

Fires are unrealted to population size but they can affect everyone by destroying their ecosystem.

Decomposer

An organism that feeds on and breaks down the remains of dead organisms, recycling nutrients back into the environment.

Example:
The primary decomposers of litter in many ecosystems are fungi.
While bacteria are restricted to growing and feeding on the exposed surfaces of organic matter, fungi use their hyphae to penetrate larger pieces of organic matter.

In my picture the decomposer is the fungi.

Producer

An organism that makes its own food through photosynthesis.

Example:
Plants are producers because they are capable in making their own food using energy from the sun in the process called photosynthesis.

Climax Community

Relatively stable collection of plants and animals that results from ecological succession.

Example:
Climax Community is a biological community of plants and animals and the result of ecological succession.
The plants, water and soil are the Climax Community.
